Picked up our free tickets to The Give And Take last night and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The Drama Theatre isn't in the sail part of the Opera House but rather underneath but we went into the main part to pick up our tickets actually from the wrong place but were soon pointed in the right direction when we asked rather than stand in the wrong queue for ages.
Just as well perhaps, as during the first act that was a vacant seat next to Gillian but after the intermission it was filled, by a huffy woman who'd spent 20 minutes queuing for her ticket where we'd originally been, and quite rightly wasn't allowed in until a suitable break.
This production was a comedy and had quite distinct parallels with The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin (the lead physically in addition to the character and his boss, a CJ-esque character) and perhaps a bit of American Beauty thrown in too. I laughed a lot (as did may others), but belly slapping comedy isn't really Gillian's thing but she scored friday's dance higher than I, so it's swings and roundabounts I suppose.
This is the first time we'd actually been in the Opera House which at first glance reminds me greatly of London's Barbican. More on that later.
