Hello Possums | Saturday, October 15, 2005 |
Three weeks and this is the first Dame Edna reference; I must be slipping. I'm not sure what proportion of these posts are to do with animals but it must be quite high, and last night on the way back from The Gotham Suite walking through Hyde Park, the hills were alive with the sound of Possums.
This only really interesting to me I suppose, but I've only previously seen our dark tailed friends in NZ, and apart from a single occasion, they've been exclusively of the greasy-smear-in-the-road variety. I guess that much like the urban fox population in the UK (and apparently they do have four legged Foxes in Oz) these critters are essentially unconcerned by us humans. Indeed a couple of young women where cooing and snapping their fingers and the little beast was quite happy to lope upto them and see what sort of goods they were offering.
I'm also sure that they're tick ridden, stinky things (again like the UK Fox), but they're still kind of cute.
