Need more luddites! | Wednesday, October 05, 2005 |
When in the UK, I must say that the technology news we saw about Australia wasn't on the whole, that promising. To be fair, most of the criticism was levelled at former federal communications minister Richard Alston, but nevertheless, shit sticks.
So, it's come as something of a pleasent suprise that actually, things are rather different.
We're moving into our new place in a day or so. Our area is on fancy ADSL2+ exchanges that can (at least in theory) deliver us a 24Mbps service (with a max upload of 1Mbps). Usage is capped, but not un-reasonably so. It's not 100Mb FD like you can get in some far-east locations, but it stamps all over the service I was able to get in London (though someone has just started a similar offering there)
[update, except that it can't quite yet. The DSLAM build is in progress and they're taking pre-orders, so won't be long]
Internet Banking - there's another thing. Signed up this morning. Took 5 minutes from start to finish, and active immediately. None of this "We'll post you something nonsense"
I'm trying to keep a balance about positive and negative things in these posts, but if this is what luddites are about, the UK could use a few more.
