I think that I was sold badly short by my careers advisor when at school - in fact, on reflection, I think the only thing in her favour was that fact that she didn't recommend that I become a careers advisor.
When I think of all the things that I could have done, it does make you wonder what might have been.
Professional adventurer? Sounds a bit risky, but then again, where there's risk there's often reward. Magician? Well that sounded more than ok until the Fox documentary "When animals attack magicians". Photographer for Playboy? see Risk (and that doesn't even begin to cover the cons about hanging around with "Heff")
Then of course there's Rock Star.
I realised this evening that the closest I'm likely to get to that particular career was tonight while tending the Salmon in the fry pan. All the good tv chefs say
"sear the skin in a really hot pan". No problem, I can do that. And did. But the cooktop in our apartment is one of those ceramic do-dahs with a supposedly granular heat control, and here's the thing. This little thing is the cause of my career reflection tonight.
Each control on our four ring cooktop goes up to 12.
Not just 10 - Spinal Tap, you can keep your nancy-boy-loudest-in-england-eleven. These go upto 12, and there are four. That's 48
And that, I think, is the rock'n'rollest that I'm very likely to get (mind you, that's still four times more rocking than Spinal Tap, so perhaps it's not that bad after all)
