Coogee coogee coo

Yup, that there is a genuine bad title, but it's 0630 as I write this and I've not had a coffee yet.

Saturday was lovely and warm so we headed out on another exploratory beach mission, this time to Coogee. Bryce said it reminded him of Brighton, so I think that on this subject, he's talking crap really. To be fair, I can see what he means (the surf club is a big concrete afair, and does look a bit similar to Brighton, but the connection is a bit tenuous). This, if nothing else, has convinced Gillian and I not to believe anything that anyone says about any of the beaches.

We missed our bus, so got on one to Marourbra instead, to spend an hour or so at Mahon pool before walking round the (mostly coast path) to Coogee. The pool was nice, and made more interesting by the abundance of crabs skittering around the rock pool bits (it's a sea pool).

The walk around to Coogee was warm and goodness don't some of those houses have incredible views? With the sky as blue as it was, the water looked clear and decidedly tropical.

There are two other sea pools just before you reach Coogee beach - a general one, and one for women and children only. It seems Wylie's baths (the mixed one) is one 365 days a year and would make a nice candidate for an xmas outing I think.

You reach Coogee beach through the reserve and spend a few minutes walking along a piece of restored wetlands on a sturdy wooden boardwalk. There's another small pool (a kiddies pool really I suppose), adjacent to the SLSC. This time there are notices that using the pool is done so at your own risk. The surfaces can be slipery (so no running), the water can be shallow (so don't dive), and watch out for giant squid (ok, the dreaded Blue Ringed Octupus).

We bypassed this, and put our mats on the beach before heading into was must be the biggest bath ever. I don't think that I've every swum anywhere with water as clear as this, possibly the Maldives, but I wouldn't bet on it. Good job really as I suppose it will make those lethal Octopusesessess that bit easier to avoid. The snorkelling there looks like it would be first class.
