Following on from Noose, the SMH has an article that reports on a poll conducted yesterday and it seems that Australia (or at least the sample in that particular poll) is quite evenly divided on the matter.
The results were 46% against, 47% for, 7% not sure and it's fair to say that my impression from the media coverage would not have suggested anything as close as that.
