Do not swim | Monday, January 09, 2006 |
It's been a bad weekend for Australian swimmers with a young woman being attacked by (reports say) three sharks in Queensland, and a seven year old dying from a Jellyfish sting, again in Queensland. The shark victim was airlifted to hospital in Brisbane but died from shock and blood loss.
South of Sydney (down past Wollongong), there are reports of large numbers of sharks close to the coast - a situation that is believed to be caused by warmer than average water, and plentiful fish stocks. According to the paper (so it must be right), species of around 4 meters have been spotted - at times within 25 meters of swimmers.
Did I mention that I like the salt water pools?
