Hello Possums | Saturday, February 18, 2006 |
Okay, so this is not really about Dame Edna, but about the news that Taronga Zoo are swapping animals with a Thai zoo which has a poor animal welfare record. The zoo spokesman has also said "The zoo will be outstanding, with several restaurants offering visitors the chance to experience exotic foods such as imported horse, kangaroo, giraffe, snake, elephant, tiger and lion meat."
Maybe New Zealand can offer some of their surplus possums instead.
Possums were instroduced to New Zealand from Asutralia for some unknown reason and have adapted very successfully and are credited with destruction of the habitat of native New Zealand birds, and accordind to the Department of Conservation there may be as many as 70 million of them.
Maybe it is time to try out this possum casserole recipe.
