Medical Break

Wednesday, February 22, 2006

It was not quite a surgery holiday this morning, but it had a sunshine feel to it.

I have been meaning to register for Medicare since we got to Australia but with one thing and another, usually work, I have not got around to it yet.

Until today that is. This morning I got up late, ate a leisurely breakfast, and emerged from the flat at 0815 into bright sunshine. Simon and I walked together to George Street and I waved him off to his train and I got to the Medicare office just before the 0830 opening.

This is such a marked contrast to my normal day, racing out the door at 0610 (or, more rarely 0730) and racing to the bus stop when there is no sun at all, that it felt like a holiday, and the process of registering took only a few minutes as well.
