Surfing Weather

Wednesday, April 26, 2006

Today has been a taste of winter to come, raining this morning and blustery when Simon picked me up from work.
Today is a running day and I am dropped off in Balgowlah to run home. Balgowlah is pretty close to Manly and the last part of my run is along the beach towards Queenscliff. The sky is absolutely leaden when I get there and you can see the rain in the distance, all the streetlights have come on and I can hardly see the surfers out trying to catch a last few waves for the day.
This isn’t what people think about normally when they think of surfing at Manly but as long as there is light, there are always surfers out there, and they don’t stop for the rain.
Recent storms have meant that the waves are pretty big and there are still surfers out there as I pass Queenscliff Surf Lifesaving Club, the first of the night fishermen are just arriving to take over the shoreline until light and the return of the surfers.
