Park life

Thursday, May 18, 2006

Now we have the little car we see more of the locale. One thing that strikes me is that Sydney is a very green city. There are large parks, and many small ones the size of "the green" outside my Gran's house when I was a child and more.

One difference though seems to be the number of quite well appointed childrens playgrounds. Almost every park (or reserve) seems to have a well maintained climbing frame, roundabout or slide.

I think back to the dilapidated state of some of the local play facilities when I was a wee snot and can't believe the difference that 30 years and 12,000 miles makes. That spongy rubber stuff made from recylced tires that is used as a surface covering didn't even exist when I was a child. If, through over exeburance you fell off, there was a lump on the head to prove it.

That's progress I guess.
