Pilu

Saturday lunch was at Pilu, set back ever-so-slightly from the beach at Freshwater, an easy 10 minute walk over the will from our place.

When Gillian booked we were told that there were no beach views available which was disappointing but understandable on arrival. It turned out that half the restaurant was given over to a christening party and the suprise wedding of I presume, the parents.

So we were very pleasantly suprised when we were led to a table on what would once have been a verandah and seated with a fabulous view for what turned out to be a lengthy and delicious meal.

Pilu is Sardinian, so the wine list was challenging, but we got good advice from the staff. The food was biased towards the sea, and my main course of fish soup doesn't begin to describe the bowl of broth that must have had half a bay of creatures crammed into it.

Half a fish, most of a crab, clams, mussels, squid, octopus. Delicious and followed by a completely unnecessary desert of bresh brioche, ginger ice cream and fruit. We weezed our way back over the hill before leaping in a cab and heading to Minus 5.
