A hop, spit and a jump | Tuesday, June 13, 2006 |
Saturday evening saw us doing dinner for Greg and Sarah, an event that left us with hangovers on Sunday. In turn, this meant that the walk that we were going to do, didn't happen.Despite the trauma associated with picture and curtain track hanging on Sunday night, Monday dawned clear, blue and ever-so crisp. We raced out to the bus heading for Spit Bridge to walk back to Manly along the "Manly Scenic Walkway".
The Manly end is nicely layed and quite substantial and so I had visions of perhaps using the route as a way of cycling home. Well, you can scratch that idea. Steps, overhanging rocks, sheer drops and sand. Even if I ignored the signs my bicycle does not come with anti-gravity doodahs or float wheels.
Three hours from start to finish, up hill and down dale and at times it felt quite remote. An added bonus was the unexpected finding of some aboriginal stone carvings nicely boxed off by the parks authority depicting fish, kangaroos and boomerangs. They were in some cases indistinct but have obviously been there a while. We managed to miss the small lighthouse but took full advantage of the lookout points. One thing that's quite clear is that there is a lot of green space in Sydney and that it moves from urban to natural really quite quickly. There's more than a fair share of cliffs too.
What a nice start to the day it was!
