It's official. We've gone native. Only a few months ago, we were sweltering in ~40 degree temperatures so the wintery visit to New Zealand for Gillian's birthday came as a real shock.
South Cantebury was hit with one of the heaviest snow storms in sixty years and the whole area is still blanketed in snow and recovering. The power board have taken nearly three weeks to get all the local power reconnected after ice and snow brought down lines. Every second or third tree has lost branches due to snow weight.
But boy does it look pretty and the early season skiing is the best in a decade.
