One of the unexpected things about Manly is the metal detectors. Not the airport kind though.
In the late afternoon you will often see several people out on the beach with their headphones on, scanning the ground to pick up the money, jewellery etc dropped by the days beach visitors.
I guess there must be a reasonable amount of it as they are always out there. This morning I saw one when I was out running. Bearing in mind that it was 05:10, pitch black, overcast and with flashes of lightning in the distance I think that it shows some dedication.
He was on the part of the beach nearest to the Corso which is where all the pubs are. I assume he would be gathering up whatever was lost on the beach when people have gone onto the sand after pub closing.
