What a difference a week makes

Last weekend we headed up the coast to The Entrance and basked in early spring sun on the beach.

Fast forward a few days and Sydney on Thursday had all of September's mean rainfall in a single evening. And heaps more the next day. And the next.

In case that wasn't enough, throw in some fierce winds (enough to cancel the Manley ferry for five hours, bringing down trees and interrupting power to parts of our locale).

Our journey to work on Thursday morning required negotiating axle deep water at more than one point out of Manly as the storm drains struggled and failed to cope with run-off volume.

Ironically, after the sunny capers of last weekend and the spotting of a delightful beachside campsite we spent some time today looking at tents with a few to doing some camping.

We have a small, lightweight tent ideally suited (more or less) for hiking and cycling but we're after something "family" sized and more orientated towards static camping for a period of days. Something with a vestibule.

They're cheap here too, far more so that I would expect in the UK. Partially I suppose this is due to the more outdoor-sy nature of people here, and presumably the weather too (though given the last few days).

I've been scouting out camping areas nearby (around 70k's from here) and am looking forward to spending a time communing with oneself and nature. Particularly wombats.

I hear tell of a beach a couple of hours to the south where it is quite permissable to camp and where at dusk Kangaroos can be found grazing. I've yet to see a Kangaroo so am quite keen on that idea. The problem is, NSW is a big state, and many of the places are significant drives away. I guess we'll start close and work outwards but this may minimize wombat/roo encounters.
