Those crazy cockatoos | Monday, January 22, 2007 |
I'm not certain that there will be any Cockatoo's but on Saturday morning Gillian and I are off to Cockatoo Island in the harbour.
Way back in the day (1830's) it was the site of a convict prison and following that a ship yard in various forms until the 1990's
There's intrigue too - well sort of. There's no ferry stop there, but with our fluro-yellow $16 tickets issued by the Harbour Trust that maintain the site, we get a secret, un-marked drop off point on the ferry heading to Balmain Wharf.
They do a night visit too, but Gillian is a little claustraphobic and dark tunnels and so on don't immediately ring her bell. If this is, as I expect a good morning out then I may try and go back a bit later in the year when it's darker. I think you could get some very atmospheric photos (assuming the guides have enough patience)
