I have recently started a course at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and part of my orientation was to attend a workshop for mature age students.
I am enjoying the various classes and things especially as a lot of things are new to me, even the names. Why is it mature age students? I am used to the label ‘mature students’, I guess they are just making the point that there might be other ways to be mature. As you only need to be 23 to qualify as a mature age student it is a bit of a joke anyway.
Back to the original story now; I was sitting in this workshop listening to a selection of mature age students describe their experiences at UTS and how they were able to succeed and one of them said in a reassuring way that “the mature age students in a class always seem to gravitate together”.
I had a horrible vision of all the gray hairs in the room sneaking across the floor to join together, much like the T-1000 in Terminator 2 and the title of this posting sprung to mind as a description of the powerful attractive force of a room of mature age students
