If I recall correctly last Australia day both Google and Microsoft had competing planes in the sky above Sydney to take high resolution photos for their respective mapping services.
I'm not sure where the planes went, but it seems that Google have incorporated the new data into their service already and it covers at least Bondi, St. Leonards (where I work) and Manly. They may not even have been taken on Australia day, but it's the results that count.
