Sunny Europe

I've arrived in Zurich and I have half a day really to do a bit of exploring before two days of meetings starting tomorrow. They're scheduled to run from 0800-1800 so I think Friday will be a bit of a rush to the airport for the 1915 plane to London.

Flight over was pretty good - long, but those nice business seats while looking a bit shabby compared to the 1st class section do make a significant difference. It's 1615hrs and I'm starting to run out of steam but it's quite possible that the enormous (and probably not quite as healthy as I'd envisaged) salad and two beers I had for lunch in the sun are the reason for that. Nice to be back somewhere where the default size of beer is large though.

I've got some reading to do so I'll try not to nod off in the process. I've had a bit of a wander around this afternoon but nothing really very structured - and certainly nothing requiring the boarding of a little train that takes you up the 'house' mountain. Seems a nice enough city though, lots of old European architecture, heaps of trams and bicycles and a selection of nice looking riverfronts and of course the lake.

The evening will be upon me soon and I hope that by then my luggage that neglected to leave London will have arrived at the hotel. It was handed over the local delivery folks that the airport uses in situations like this at about 1430, but I'll not be happy till it's here. I wouldn't say no to some fresh clothes. Neither I suppose would anyone near me.

I don't think there was a cock-up as such, the bags just didn't get from A-B fast enough at good old LHR. I barely made it on the plane given the a) slightly late arrival of the plane due to fierce Afghan headwinds and more significantly the b) chaotic fuckup that Heathrow is these days with everyone being required to remove shoes, recite random chunks of Gilbert and Sullivan and pat their heads and rub their stomachs (or whatever the security measure is on that particular day).

We shall see, I suppose, but I'd rather not have to wear this stuff again tomorrow :-(
