Between Baker Street station and the hotel is a very large JD Wetherspoons pub. These have two things to recommend them normally; the lack of music, and more as they are a strong supporter of real-ales, the beer.
Right now they've a beer 'festival' on with lots of different local beers putting in an appearance. I can't tell if they're rotated every day as I only popped in last night and this evening - sampling two different pints each time before leaving.
This evening while sitting at my table I took a look at the menu. Tonight was Grill Night.
For about 7 quid you can get a variety of steaks and mixed grills together with sides (chips/peas/whatever) and a pint of basic beer (Marstons for example). It seems quite good value (though T-Bones are extra). One thing that struck me though related to the Gammon Steak which was served with chips, and either a fried egg or the customary slice of pineapple. A little statement delivered in a camp batman style 'kappow' declared that this was an improved recipe.
Whilst I applaud any raising of standards when it comes to food, the question that's bothering me is exactly how they improved the recipie for a unadulterated piece of meat, chips and either a fried egg or a slice of pineapple? It does make me wonder what they were (or weren't) doing to it previously.
