I shake my fist at Roger Banister | Thursday, June 14, 2007 |
Today was something of a milestone.
I've been doing a little running at the gym, nothing huge, just a one mile trot to warm up before moving on to other things. When I started last year I was turning in a mile time of about 09:30 seconds.
For a while I've been eyeing up a 07:00 minute time. Improving from the 07:30 mark has been slow, but today for the first time I've hit the target, and in fact, came in at 06:57. Although 3 seconds doesn't sound like much, that's a pace of around 14-15kph (and for me, completely unachievable for an hour too). Not bad for a 35yr old guy that has always, always hated distance, by which I mean anything over 800m, running.
Of course, I thought I was going to die afterwards, but, six-fifty-seven! Next stop, 04:00. Right.
It's been a week of first's as I went climbing for the first time yesterday with one of my team mates, somthing that I think I'll try and do regularly.
