Lunching in the shadow of death | Sunday, July 08, 2007 |
As mentioned previously, the Sydneysiders get pretty excited about ships visiting and this weeks visit from the USS Kittyhawk, an aircraft supercarrier, is no exception.
The Prime Minister, John Howard, personally welcomed the sailors to Sydney, and most of the Woolloomooloo area has been made a no parking area to avoid the traffic problems experienced last time a large ship visited.
Needless to say the residents of Woolloomooloo and Potts Point are unhappy about that, although those who are in the hospitality and sex industries may join the acting NSW premier John Watkins in welcoming the 5000 "cashed up" sailors.
I took this photo on my Friday lunchtime run.
