Beeping Test | Monday, August 13, 2007 |
As part of the group fitness thing I do we have been split into teams for this eight week term and are competing against each other in fitness tests.
One of these tests is the 'Multistage fitness test' or 'beep test' and I did my competition one this morning. In this test, you run to and fro along a 20 metre track, keeping up with a series of beeps on a CD. The timing of the beeps gradually increases until you can no longer keep up and this defines the level achieved.
I was worrying about letting my team down but was happy with my result of 10.8
To put this in perspective you need a score of 5.1 to join the police, 7.5 to join the army and 10.1 to enter commando training.
According to this website, this score puts me into the excellent category for maximal oxygen uptake, so maybe my lungs are healing after all those years of smoking.
