Going Postal

Wednesday, August 08, 2007

I am slowly settling in to the new job but am still finding my way around this part of the city.
Today I needed some stamps and looked at the Auspost web site to find the closest one to my office.
The main Sydney post office is in St. Martins place which is only;y a few minutes away but there was one on the map closer at only 200 metres, the name of the post office is Sydney Parliament house and I spent a few minutes looking for it in the general area when I realised that the post office must be inside the parliament building.
A quick trip through the scanner and I was able to walk into the small post office and buy my stamps.
After all the security in the UK this is refreshing, I could just walk in from the street without producing identification, walk in the door, use the postal services, toilets, view the current exhibition, drink the coffee and eat the cakes (not free).
When Simon and I came for our evening class on NSW Government we were pleasantly surprised by how relaxed it was, and I continue to be, and next time I need a quiet break from work you may find me sitting in the NSW Parliament drinking the coffee.
