To the lighthouse

Grotto Point Lighthouse, originally uploaded by GFR.

After last night's nap at the theatre I had a bit of a lie-in this morning, but not too much.
By 7:30 I was up breakfasted and had caught the bus to Spit bridge to walk along the Manly scenic walkway which runs from Spit bridge to Manly.

I have done the walk before although I have not taken the detour to the lighthouse previously. This morning when I got to the place where the lighthouse track splits off the path to Manly had a temporary barrier across it, so I thought I would walk via the lighthouse path. There is, unsurprisingly, a good view from the lighthouse but the path does not go anywhere from there and I had to retrace my steps.

There was another place where a path took off and I followed that until I ended up on a rock ledge a long way above the sea, so retracing steps again. Then I decided that I would need to just walk around the temporary barrier as if the track really was closed a sign would have been posted earlier. It didn't take long to find the cause of the barrier, there was a lot of fire hose strewn around the path and there has obviously been a recent bushfire on Dobroyd head. A passing jogger said the fire had happened yesterday and I later saw several firemen walking towards the site of the fire, maybe to retrieve their hose?

Even with my earlier diversions I was sat on the sand at Reef beach drinking coffee from my thermos and eating garibaldi biscuits by 9:00. The sun was already warm and there were lots of kayakers and runners out, I mostly had the beach to myself.
