Whatever else Sydney Ferries might do, it seems communication is not their strong point.
Sudden cancellation of services seems to be a specialty and already once this week I had arrived at Circular Quay to find that the Jet Cat service I had planned to get was not on the board and no explanation was offered.
Last night i went for some work drinks and when I left it was about 19:15, so I thought I would wander down to the wharf and get the next service. For some reason in the evenings there is a 19:30 ferry which gets in at 20:00, and a 19:45 Jet Cat which should get in at the same time but always passes the slow ferry before Manly Wharf and unloads quicker.
The Jet Cat is also more comfortable so I thought I would get that until I got to the wharf and noticed that the next Jet Cat on the board was the 20:30, another unexpected and unannounced cancellation.
I caught the slow service, sat upstairs and was surprised nearly 30 minutes later to see the Jet Cat nipping ahead of us to dock at Manly Wharf, with no passengers (I guess they were all on the slow ferry with me).
I was even more surprised when it was time to get off the ferry and not only did they not open the upper door, but they made no announcement about it and we all just had to wander downstairs when we realised nobody was going to open the door.
